Northland email loop: Please contact daphne@daphneclair.com to join this members-only email discussion forum where we share emails about writing matters. If you did so before and haven't been successful, we've found the easiest way. Ideally every member would have an account, and then can choose to be an active member of the group, or to only receive important announcements, like notices of meetings and workshops, and special events.

Branch Profile

The Branch has been operating for ten years, and meets monthly except January, alternately in Whangarei or members' homes in other centres.

We have a writers' room in central Whangarei for the use of all Northland writers who need a place to work or to meet with contacts, have a cuppa between appointments in town or any other reasonable use. It is also available for hire to other groups.

We assist with the judging of the short story contest run by the Rawene Book Festival.

With the Friends of the Whangarei library we are engaged in an ongoing project to collate information on Northland writers, past and present.

For the past four years we have given a $500 prize to a writing student at Northland Polytechnic.

There is an email loop for members only where we discuss all manner of writing matters.

Workshops and mentoring sessions are part of our activities each year, and meetings sometimes feature guest speakers or our own members' presentation on subjects in which they have expertise, relevant to writers.

Our members range from unpublished beginners to those with many years of published work, and we welcome new faces.
